Asprona 50th anniversary leaflet artwork

This work was done as a volunteer for the 50th anniversary of Valladolid-Asprona, entity whose mission involves the care of mentally handicapped people and their families.

Asprona

Asprona is a non-profit organisation which was born on 28th January and belongs to the ‘Confederación Española de Organizaciones en favor de las Personas con Discapacidad Intelectual (FEAPS)’. Asprona has more than 1,400 members, more than 900 workers (600 of them are handicapped people) and helps more than 1,500 people, apart from 150 volunteers.

50th anniversary event

The event was held on February 1st in the Zorrilla theatre, in the main square of Valladolid. Personalities like Manuel Fernández (organisation current president), Milagros Marcos (Family and Equal Opportunities regional minister), Francisco Javier León de la Riva (Mayor of Valladolid) and more relevant members of Asprona attended the event. When it finished, it was followed by a performance of the ‘Amigos de la Zarzuela’ lyric band, accompanied by the ‘Valladolid Ensemble’ orchestra conducted by Ernesto Monsalve. The chosen play ‘Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente’ represents the similarity between 1887 and today. Ernesto Monsalve tried to please the audience, to enjoy himself and to accompany the wonderful work  Aspronas does.

The logotype

The creator of the 50th anniversary logotype was Manuel Sierra Álvarez, a very famous Spanish painter, illustrator and graphic designer from Valladolid. The hands represent the help, intregration and inclusion of handicapped people in the society and workspace.

Personal experience

Honestly, when they ask me to design the diptych, I didn’t imagine that it would be for such an important event, neither work “with” a so famous artist in Valladolid like Manuel Sierra. I really noticed its importance when I attended the performance to do a tracking of the leaflet. In fact, this work is the first one I have done as a professional, in which I have contacted a printer (Gupost) for the first time  as a professional. Doing this work has very much helped me to know Asprona and their closest organisations better and to know more about teamwork with clients and artists. Personally, I have liked this experience a lot, especially because it was focused on such a special target like mentally handicapped people.
